Thank you to all our elementary artists who submitted their best artwork for the Brown Elementary yearbook cover! We had so many amazing submissions!!

Jinesha's submission will be on the cover of our 2023-24 yearbook. The remainder of the top 10 will be on the back cover and all non-winning submissions will be included inside the yearbook. Thank you to all the artists who submitted an entry.

Thanksgiving Baskets

Thanksgiving is a time to really reflect on everything in our lives that we have to be thankful for. Some years are more abundant than others. If you have had a good year, consider sharing that blessing this Thanksgiving by donating items for our Thanksgiving baskets to help some of our Brown Families.

This year we will be collecting items for Thanksgiving Meal Baskets for 10 Brown School families.

Donations can be dropped off to the main office starting Monday, November 13th and all items must be brought in by Friday, November 17th. We ask that turkeys be dropped off on Monday, November 20th in the afternoon.

Thank you for your support! We are so thankful to be part of such a caring and giving school family.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Brown School Cares!

The holiday season is quickly approaching and our Brown School Community would like to support our families in need. Our PTO and office staff are looking forward to organizing efforts to support our families in need over the holidays. Please know that your name will remain anonymous and only the school administration will know which families are participating. Kindly complete our Brown Cares Form by November 13th.

5.3 Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

In this unit, students find the product of two fractions, divide a whole number by a unit fraction, and divide a unit fraction by a whole number.

Previously, students made sense of multiplication of a whole number and a fraction in terms of the side lengths and area of a rectangle. Here, they make sense of multiplication of two fractions the same way. Students interpret area diagrams with two unit fractions for their side lengths, then a unit fraction and a non-unit fraction, and then two non-unit fractions.

Through repeated reasoning, students notice regularity in the value of the product (MP8). They generalize that it can be found by multiplying the numerators and multiplying the denominators of the factors:

×=××

For example, 24×35 is 2 × 34 × 5 because there are 4×5 equal parts in the whole square and 2×3 parts are shaded.
