Dr. Ann Science Night

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make Science Night such a success. Julie Collard did a great job coordinating all the exhibits on very short notice. We would also like to extend our thanks to Kelsey Froelich for bringing her advanced biology students to serve as judges for the science projects. They did a great job with their feedback!

How would the bond proposal affect your taxes? With a 1.95 mill net increase over the current millage rate, the approval of the May 7 bond proposal would result in a new millage rate of 5.65. This rate is lower than many surrounding districts and for the average taxpayer, this equates to an annual increase of $220.82. Calculate your tax impact at sjpsfuture.org. Please join us on Monday, March 18th at 6pm to learn more about this important investment!

PositivityProjectCharacterTraitoftheWeek

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Social Intelligence.

Social intelligence means that you are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things. It refers to a person’s ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships — and is distinct from a person’s IQ or “book smarts.” It includes an individual’s ability to understand, and act on, the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of other people. This type of intelligence can take place “in the moment” of face-to-face conversations but also appears during times of deliberate thinking. It involves emotional intelligence and self-awareness.

Examples of social intelligence include knowing when to talk or listen, what to say, and what to do. Timing is a big part of social intelligence. For example, someone who is imperceptive may tell a funny joke – but at the wrong time, or not show enough interest when meeting someone new.
